Family Consultations

My passion is supporting parents and families. I understand that parents can only be as happy as their least happy child.

My passion is supporting parents and families. I understand that parents can only be as happy as their least happy child. When a child is struggling, parents often need guidance on how to support their child, access resources, care for siblings, and how to advocate. When a child is challenging behaviorally, parents often need help understanding the causes of the behavior and need help to co-regulate with their child. It is a lot! And even more difficult when your child has a disability that others don’t understand. Changing our own way of relating can make a huge difference in family life. It is so easy to make things worse instead of better. Sometimes just by following common parenting techniques. Parents can benefit from having an objective outsider to help them understand more deeply and become a more effective parent who can co-regulate. Some children, especially neurodivergent children do not benefit from direct therapy and can be best helped by their parents receiving help.

Consultations can take various forms. Some parents benefit from including extended family members in these consultations as well as professionals. Diane also attends school meetings with parents. She can review reports and paperwork from schools and therapists. She has met with siblings and grandparents. Each family has unique needs. It is helpful to have a knowledgible, nonjudemental and supportive partner in this complex parenting journey.

Consultations are offered virtually without geographic restrictions. They are fee for service. Families in IL, may get partial reimbursement from their health insurance if they have out of network coverage. They can be arranged on a one-time basis, on a regular schedule or as needed.
